Waste Not – Want Not

Today I was reminded of one of the best cost saving habits that we can acquire as we live the natural organic whole foods lifestyle. It goes without saying that because of our commitment to natural organic whole foods, we do not eat foods that are full of preservatives and chemicals. Now when you don’t have preservatives in the food you eat, food just doesn’t last as long.

The natural organic whole foods you buy have already made the trip from the field to the market to you and the farther away the field is the longer it has probably been since the food was harvested. This means that there is a limited time for you to use your natural organic whole foods before they turn to a rotten goop. This makes planning ahead important.

We have all probably heard the saying “Waste Not – Want Not”. If you take the time to shop wisely, prepare your natural organic whole foods in the appropriate times and quantities you will discover that your grocery bill goes down. The fresher your food is the better it will taste and also the better for you it tends to be. So buy less at a time, prepare less at a time and you will find less food rotten in your refrigerator, and have more dollars in your pocket too.

Of course, when you do loose food to the natural process, there are always ways you can put this “rotten food” to good use. You can feed the food to your chickens, and if you don’t have chickens you can get composting red worms and they will be happy to turn your organic waste into the perfect natural organic fertilizer. So lets think about how we can waste not, lower our expenses, and get more out of our natural organic whole foods lifestyle.

Let me know what you have done to “waste not” in your comments below.
